About the book
Kihleng’s poetry draws on Pohnpeian kinship, language and everyday life.

One book at a time.
My Urohs is Pohnpeian writer Emelihter Kihleng’s first poetry collection. Its title invokes the embroidered urohs skirt within her writing about identity. The Book of Luelen offers a different route: a translation of a Pohnpeian account of history, traditions and stories. Both books connect specifically with Pohnpei and do not encompass all the federation’s distinct cultures. Indigenous Literatures from Micronesia broadens the view to the whole region, while Legends of Kosrae presents the oral traditions of a distinct island within the federation.
